The bottle stopper is handmade from Purpleheart also known as Amaranth. The freshly cut wood is a dull grayish/purplish brown color but with exposure to air and UV light the color changes to a deeper eggplant purple. Purpleheart grows in Central and South America from Mexico to southern Brazil. The stopper is chrome plated and has a tapered graduated silicone gasket that provides an air tight and leak resistant seal. The wood has a polyurethane finish to protect it from alcohol.
